Dream a Little Dream...of the Coreys

Welcome to Fangirl Flashback Friday!  Today I’m venturing back to the days before I was a fanmom, back when my hair was big, my jeans were bleached, ripped & prep-rolled, and my bedroom walls were covered in posters from Teen Bop.

This week I was doing a little reminiscing and ended up watching one of my favorite movies from back in my fangirl days… Dream a Little Dream starring my dream team, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman.  These boys were the dynamic duo during my junior high and high school days and honestly, I loved anything they did.  They made me smile, laugh out loud, and swoon.  There was definitely the trademark fangirl “squee”-ing going on when one of their new movies was announced.
While most people think of The Lost Boys or License to Drive when they think of the Coreys, Dream a Little Dream holds a special place in my heart.  I loved the interaction between the teenagers and the older couple, and I always thought it showed another side to Corey Feldman that we didn’t often see.  And that soundtrack!  I still absolutely LOVE that soundtrack!!!  Time Runs Wild, Rock On, and of course the title song.
I will very likely be talking about the Coreys a LOT when I write flashback blogs, but for now, let me tell you a little more about Dream a Little Dream.  The movie stars Corey Feldman as Bobby Keller and Corey Haim as his best friend and sidekick Dinger.  In his quest to win over another friend’s girl (Lainie, played by Meredith Salenger), and to get to school on time, Bobby crosses paths with dream researcher (and typically grouchy old man) Coleman Ettinger, played by the legendary Jason Robards.  During one of Coleman’s dream experiments, in which he enlists the help of his wife Gena (Piper Laurie), Coleman’s consciousness ends up in Bobby’s body, while Gena’s is buried in Lainie.  It’s up to Coleman to help Bobby straighten out his life and win over Lainie before he can return to his own life with Gena.    In the end, Coleman and Bobby learn a lot about one another a develop a respect and affection for each other that was never there before.
As I mentioned above, the soundtrack is still one of my all-time favorites.  With a mix of 80’s tunes and more classic cuts, it perfectly embodies this film.  Below is a track list plus other songs found in the film (found on the Dream a Little Dream wikipedia page):

So while the critics reviews of Dream a Little Dream weren’t so great, this fangirl loved it, and this fanmom still does!  As a fanmom, this is one I’m happy to share with my teenager.  In fact, I’m predicting a triple feature in the near future…The Lost Boys, License to Drive & Dream a Little Dream.  It breaks my heart that we lost Corey Haim at such a young age, but his bright eyes and gorgeous smile live on in these (and many more) great films.  Were you a fan of the Coreys?  Leave me a comment below about your favorite Coreys film or favorite moment from Dream a Little Dream!
